Certainty
Joshua 3:9 Joshua said to the Israelites, "Come here and listen to the words of the LORD your God. 10 This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites. 11 See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go into the Jordan ahead of you. 12 Now then, choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. 13 And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the LORD -the Lord of all the earth—set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap."
14 So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them. 15 Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water's edge, 16 the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea [b] ) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho.
When the children of Israel marched to the edge of the muddy Jordon with swollen banks don't you think their were some that said, "oh great, now what? I knew we should have turned left at the second pile of rocks."
Faith is following God into unknown territory; uncharted water! The key words are "following God".
The road to the promised land is fraught with unexpected potholes and sharp curves.
At times our faith is so weak we barely know if we are even on the right faiway much less what lies around the bend.
Like the children of Israel, I too grumble and fret over uncertainty. Second guessing decisions we've made is a common struggle for Christians.
The scripture says " James 1:6
But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
Like the Hebrew children we can be so right at times in our faith and in the next saga be utterly dead wrong. The issue is FAITH.
The most any New Testament believer can do is keep moving forward in holiness and seeking Cannan.
Matthew 6: 33 (Message) People who don't know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don't worry about missing out. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met
Have a little faith. When you lack the confidence that what you are doing is the right thing, ask two questions: does it honor God and have I followed Him this far?
Yes?
Then keep moving. God will part the water!

This was great...I always need to be reminded that I only need to trust 1 day at a time. Faith that He will keep holding my hand is so comforting when I feel that my hands are empty. I need only to trust and I will feel His hand around mine.
ReplyDeleteOn a lighter note.... I thought the problem the Isrelites had was that they DID turn left at the second pile of rocks.
Moses was leading them and men don't like to ask for directions. :)
