Thanking God For...Fleas

1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.Corrie Ten Boom was moved by this verse to the point that she committed her heart in thankfulness to God regardless of the circumstances. Her survival in a German concentration camp depended on Giving thanks for ALL things. At one point she found herself thanking God for...fleas!  You see, her barracks was infested with them. As difficult as life and survival had become in a Nazi death camp she found it challenging to offer thanks for fleas, of all things. However, she was faithful and thanked God for them.

All of the prison compound was under daily torment, threats, and routine searches, however she was often baffled at why the soldiers were reluctant to set foot in her quarter's, although it offered a welcome reprieve from the torture. When Corrie Ten Boom was released from the prison camp she learned the reasoning for the guards seldom disturbance in her barracks...You got it... fleas.

I see cancer, diabetes, amputation, and other crippling diseases everyday. Most of my patients remain confident that God is working all things for good to them that love Him. Amazing isn't it? How someone could view a horrible condition as a God thing. That kind of attitude is admirable and...divine.

This year, try focusing your gratitude toward ALL things. You may not understand God's reasoning now, and may never know, but bending your will in thanksgiving, even with the unpleasant events, will shape your heart and turn you heavenward.

How often do we thank God for something as unpleasant and irritating as...fleas?
