What is Fallow Ground?

Hosea 10:12 Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy;
Break up your fallow ground,
For it is time to seek the LORD,
Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.

Agriculture can be draining to the soil, especially when farmers plant
the same crop year after year. The reason is simple: Each species of
plant leeches something from the soil while giving something else
back. For instance, soybeans leave nitrates in the soil while corn
absorbs nitrates. To replenish the chemical composition of soil after
a crop, some farmers let their land go fallow so that the native
plants can naturally restore the soil's balance. Fallow - left
unploughed and unseeded during a growing season. (Ag-Digest)

WOW - Very interesting. Fallow can be a technique for healthier crops?
Well... I suppose so, but have you ever watched a prime piece of
property for years lay untouched. You've seen crops there before but
seasons come and go with...nothing! If your like me you wonder if
there's been an estate transfer or some kind of legal arbitration or possibly a catastrophic life event. All you know is that somethings up because it doesn't seem right.

Jeremiah 4:3.  For thus says the LORD to the men of Judah and
Jerusalem:

" Break up your fallow ground,
And do not sow among thorns.

Jeremiah was saying to his people, seasons of opportunity, harvests
of bounty and plenty are lost forever because the fertile soil of our
lives remains unturned, hardened, and fallow. Time and time again; year
upon year; season after season has come and gone and still we remain empty, barren, blank.
Its a tragic waste, an inexcusable negligence.

When the rich soil of our lives are opened up to recieve his love and forgiveness,  His goodness and abundance yields a harvest immeasurable and overflowing.

Many lives lay fallow and hardened knowing only the broadcast. Seed scattered on hardened earth. A poor comparison to the seed planted in the rich soil of a heart made ready, cultivated and receptive; sown by a gracious heavenly Father that has intent, love, care, and purpose for each of us.

Sowing among the thistle and thorns is futile. The savagery of the bramble is to rob nutrients from any other seed. Jeremiah 8:20 "The harvest is past, the summer has ended, and we are not saved.”

Break up the fallow ground and surrender to the Lord of the harvest.
He has come that we may have life and have it more abundantly.
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the LORD,  Jeremiah 29:11
