GONE...In 60 Seconds

Job 7:16 (New International Version)
16 I despise my life; I would not live forever.

Let me alone; my days have no meaning.

What gives meaning to your life? Family, heritage, accomplishments,
status, money, home, hobbies, we could go on!
Job had all these things things and in one single day it all came
crashing down. At evening he was haunted by nightmares and by day he
was tormented by friends.
Everything was gone including his health.
Life without meaning can leave even the most stout in heart scrambling for the
shadows.
I have read that in the stock market crash nearly 100 years ago strong
men were known to leap from tall buildings. Everything that gave them
meaning was in an instant...GONE!
So...it begs the question...what gives meaning to your life?
Without a doubt, our family, job, and continuation of task add meaning
but God taught Job that even with the absence of life's blessings there
can be meaning.
As you read through the book of Job God spells out the mystery and
majesty of His creation.
The message Job took from all this was..."I have a maker, and He knows
my name!"
It's the same message derived from the tormented King David when he
wrote..."the LORD is my shepherd!"
It's pseudo spiritual to say that you need nothing else to add meaning
to life but God alone. God placed us here to prosper and take pleasure
in it. That why Jobs blessings were doubled in the end. But...expect
God to give you a heart check from time to time to reevaluate what
matters most. It can be a wake up call that flashes in an instant or a
situation that evolves over a long period of time. The mystery of
God's time and work is beyond all of us.
So.... let's keep it real, keep it simple, and keep it fresh!

Go For It

One of the most heart rendering experiences I've ever had occurred on a mission trip to the south pacific. My niece came with me along with a dozen other workers. We arrived at the airport in Manila Philippines for our return flight to America. My niece reached for her passport...and it wasn't there. One thing for certain, you're not getting on an international flight without a passport. It was lost on the bumpy ride to the city. She had everything, but not quite! Everything.. but the most important item... which gave her right of passage. At that point, nothing else mattered. I recall her weeping on my shoulder, "Uncle John, there going to keep me here forever". How God bailed us out of that jam was amazing and a great devotion for another time.
